No Animal Testing Audit Form

Is your dish soap as squeaky-clean as it makes your mugs? Is your coffee causing more of a stir in the world than just in your cup?

Every dollar, pound, euro, or loonie we spend is a vote for the kind of world we want to create. At Lush, we want to create a Lusher world, and how we make buying decisions is one of the biggest opportunities we have to do exactly that!

Embodying our ethical principles in our everyday buying decisions is not just the role of our Buying Team, it is the responsibility of all Lush colleagues E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E.

To align our efforts so our tea breaks and cleaning sprees are LUSH, we have prepared a guide, that also doubles as a form, for a backroom audit.

We want to make more and more supplies available from the order form that meets basic ethics criteria. Check your order form and prioritise ordering from there! We will make more supplies available soon. Watch this space!
If you are in the US or Canada, you can now order plant-based, compostable Swedish Cloths to replace paper towels that are used for cleaning. For this survey, please only select items that can be add to your shop orders and not ordered through Staples. We'll work with the buying team to update that list separately, side note we know there are some opportunities. If you are in the UK, you can order Innuscience Cleaning Products that are cruelty-free!

Let's get started!

Now that you know the items you buy more often locally and where you buy them, you can start this next step. Here is a suggestion on how to follow this: • Look at the categories in the table above, check what is physically in your cupboards, under your sinks, and back-of-house areas. • Take photos or make some notes but don't throw anything away. • Look at the guidance below and Buying Guide to check whether what you buy is already ok (and celebrate), and not ok. • If ok, you can keep buying it! If not ok, look at the list below and the Buying Guide for something that is available near you, or find replacements that align with our ethics. • If you already have it, use it! And make a plan for future purchases. No shame, no one is perfect and this is a learning exercise. • You can use the template in the "Think Like a Buyer" resource here. • Create an updated shopping guide for your store and make sure everyone knows about it. • Share the highlights and learnings of this exercise with the team, and keep that list at hand • Let us know if you have any issues or feedback! Are you ready?

What you buy

'Think like a Buyer' or should we say, 'like a Detective'?

Being a Buyer at Lush is one of the coolest roles in the business, not just because you get to travel to cool places, but mainly because you have the responsibility of upholding some of our most important ethical principles like No Animal Testing.

It is also like being a detective sometimes, as they have to dig deeper to uncover where bad practices may be hiding. We have asked their help to put together the checklist below to help you make decisions when you need to spend Lush money in your shop, office or manufacturing room.

At the end, we share the link to a list of preferred brands you can have in your back of house!

Where you Buy

At Lush we have the Fair Tax mark, and we like to support businesses that play fair. Where we buy matters. Here is what we prefer in descending order:
1. Order from the order form ;-) 2. Buy from a local, independently owned shop
3. Buy from a supermarket
4. Boycott Amazon. At LUSH, we never buy anything from Amazon.
Check the list of supermarkets from best to worst and preferred brands you can shop in the Buying Guide.
Do you have an 'no animal tested' shopping list for your store? Have you sorted out where to buy supplies from?

We have created a poster for you to print and proudly display in your back of house!
